Volunteered at a medical and dental outreach programme which catered to children attending public secondary schools in Surulere. Teslim balogun stadium was the venue. We had ample space to attend to over 5000 school children. It was an awesome event and the choice of venue was a great one.

The designers of this stadium clearly had really big plans for it. But like all things govt run, it has never quite hit its potential. The complex itself is huge. With facilities for several sports, Most of the issues can be reduced to a lack of funding? Or maybe a diversion of funding. Either way, the teeming youths in the area must be given an outlet to express themselves. Could the complex be concessioned to private operators? Maybe on a section by section basis. Now, what exactly was the rationale behind building this stadium directly opposite the national stadium ?

The Teslim Balogun Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria. The stadium is located directly opposite the multipurpose National Stadium. It is used mostly for football matches and serves as a home ground of First Bank Football club .The stadium has a capacity of 24,325 people,and is sometimes used for international football matches. It once served as the venue for the Nigerian FA Cup final, just before it hosted some matches in the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup youth tournament held in Nigeria. Most Nigerian stadiums allow more people in the stadium than the official capacity allows, which often decreases comfort. It is named after former professional footballer Teslim Balogun. Started in 1984 under the administration of military governor Gbolahan Mudasiru, construction continually stalled under military regimes and the stadium became a white elephant. By the time the stadium was completed in 2007, it had taken 23 years to build and cost over N1.3 billion. As recently as 2006, it was occupied by homeless people and area boys. The first event held in the stadium was the 18th Mobil Track and Field Athletics Championship on May 17. The first football game was a friendly on May 28 between Enyimba vs. Asante Kotoko. The stadium also hosted the Nigeria Premier League Super Four playoff that season and the Nigerian FA Cup final in 2007. The final of the 2009 Federation Cup between Enyimba and Sharks was held at the stadium.
