No one can actually commune with and appreciate nature in its entirety with a visit to Port Harcourt Zoo. Government and whatever body that partners with her should wake up to their responsibilities.

Curious One

Good place to take the kids for a cheap and educative treat. The animals are not in fantastic conditions but they are fairly OK. The environment is nice as there are lots of trees for shade. A lot of empty cages abound as well but you still get to see lions, ostriches, crocodiles, monkeys and chimpanzees. There are birds of prey and some exotic varieties. If you are brave enough, you can peer in and take a look at the resident python too. Beware to keep your kids within eyesight to avoid the horse riders trampling them

The Port Harcourt zoo is situated about Trans Amadi animal slaughter market. The zoo does not house many animals and the few surviving ones are looking hungry hence government management. Staffers may not help to take you round, so be careful while touring the zoo. How ever the zoo environment is cool but looks fairly unkept.

Poorly maintained zoo. Used to be a major tourist attraction centre in time past but now a shadow of its self. However, u could still get one or two pale looking animals there. Safety measures are all in place to safeguard visitors to park. There are many variety of animal wildlife present here. It is also a very beautiful place to connect with nature.

The abattoir popularly called Slaughter shares a large chunk of that axis with the Zoo. So, you can either use the abattoir as a landmark or you simply ask for the zoo. There are lots of creatures: terrestrial and arboreal. It is a one-stop-shop for these habitats: the savanna, the rain forest, a grassland and aqua. Lions, ostriches, snakes, turtle, tortoise, monkeys, apes, and the entrance fee is a token. Security is also guaranteed. Give it a shot.
