Early History, Growth & Development Of The Hilltop The Hilltop International Christian Centre was officially inaugurated on the 6th of June 1993 at the Oroworukwo Town Hall, in the Niger Delta City of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. This was the place of worship of the then International Christian Centre ‘ICC’ (as the church was popularly known then) for the next seven years. It started with a total of seven members, with regular weekend and weekly services. In the year 2000, we acquired a five acre parcel of land in the heart of Port Harcourt. The church moved to its present site situated at Hilltop Drive, off Miniwachara Road, Off Waterlines/Elekahia Link Road, Orochiri, Port Harcourt and it became simply known as “The Hilltop” when it was officially renamed from International Christian Outreach Centre (ICC) to The Hilltop International Christian Centre – The Hilltop – based on Mathew 5: 14b. The present Hilltop main auditorium accommodates up to three thousand people in its main seating area, two galleries, and two overflows. The large fully air-conditioned auditorium was erected to house multiple services when the previous location became inadequate. The drive to plant this church in Port Harcourt (Niger Delta region of Nigeria) was initiated when God revealed His mandate to Pastors Chris and Stephanie Oarhe in two specific visions about Port Harcourt, while they prayed for the will of God. Today the church has grown into a family of kingdom minded believers with outreaches (mission centers) extending from the city of Port Harcourt to many nations of the world. The Hilltop is organized for growth through the five purpose teams namely, Membership Team, Maturity Team, Ministry Team, Evangelism and Outreach Team, Worship Team and Administrative Team. We also run a school, The Hilltop Academy, a training programme for all members focused on raising leaders, modeling Christ. The Hilltop International Christian Centre through the ministries of Chris and Stephanie Oarhe has amongst others a strong divine mandate to minister through electronic and print media. The Media Ministries Department launched the New Experience telecast in1999 and the Heart2Heart telecast in 2001. These media tools amongst which Heart2Heart stands out have been touching millions of people weekly and is expanding. The two programs are currently aired weekly on four local stations in the city of Port Harcourt and a satellite station and it reaches an average of 6 million viewers. The church continues to wax strong and relentless in pursuing the divine mandate to equip believers to reach the unreached by building Christ centered relationships which respond to people’s needs, hurts and interests. We operate MAP centers (popularly known as the cell system) where church members and neighbours meet to fellowship and to impact their various communities. The Hilltop was founded on and is upheld by the word of God. We preach faith and believe in a holistic development of man. Our slogan and watch word is and always will be ‘The Word Works!’
