The Ogun River is a waterway in Nigeria that discharges into the Lagos Lagoon. The river rises in Oyo State near Shaki and flows through Ogun State into Lagos State. According to some believers and worshippers of the river, it is called Ogun River because it started like a small water leakage from a pipe centuries ago which flows continuously and crossing all the parts of Ogun State. Ogun river is seen in every part of Ogun State consciously and identified as a statewide river. I was privileged to visit of of is sites at Akeredolu Community via Olambe-Akute and Megi in Koye Isale via Olambe-Akute in Ogun State. The sites of this fearful water is evidently fearful in its current. Several spiritual and religious activities goes on on every bank of the river. There are some who take Yemoja, the worship of river as their religion and there are some who though they belong to a section if the Christian and Islamic background and faith but have one spiritual activities or the other ranging from baptism, spiritual bath, consultation, ablusion, sacrifices and others. There are also economical activities along most of its bank. Fishing is a popular business around the river, however dredging and getting sand from the soil is a good business too. The water along the banks are used for bathing, washing and cooking although some throw dirts into the river.

This place is highly historical as there are many stories associated with it, even in naming of Ogun State in Nigeria. Ogun River is a waterway in Nigeria, originating in the isolated area of Saki in Oyo state, adjoining the Oyo National Park and gliding through Ogun State to empty into the Lagos Lagoon/Atlantic. Ogun River glides through Egba towns. Ogun River also passes as a flow (through) under the Kara Bridge around Ojodu Berger area of Lagos State. It once served as an important trade route connecting coasts of Lagos, Badagry, and Abeokuta.
