Onikan Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Lagos. It is currently used mostly for football matches and it’s the home stadium of various Lagos football teams. The stadium has a capacity of 5,000 people and it is the oldest in Nigeria. Located on the southeastern corner of Lagos Island near Tafewa Balewa Square, the original stadium was built in 1930; then between 1963 and 1973, it became known as the Lagos City Stadium. The current Onikan Stadium was then renovated & reopened for football and cultural activities in the 1980s.

The stadium is currently going through a rejuvenation. The stadium when completed will be host a standard football pitch metting international standards. It also will host others sports like handball, volleyball, basketball, indoor sport games like table tennis, gymnastics and so on. It will also have a multipurpose hall within to host other functions. I am sure this stadium will make good statement about Lagos and its facility. Great facility.
