Patrick DauduThis is a beautiful tourist attraction, one of the most catchy in the whole of Nigeria. The sight is awesome from the top of the mountains and the tour guides are very informative (tour guides are paid a small fee). This place holds a lot of history for the people of the southwest and indeed the nation nigeria. The road leading here is very accessible. The place is only fairly managed and maintained as accessibility features as elevator is no longer functional. Safety measures are fairly in place, but more can be done. No security issues. There are restrooms and restaurant too but I advise you go with your food. The art gallery has loads of souvenirs that are not so expensive. There is a gate fee too o.

Get to the top and take good look at the city. The beauty of Nature is priceless!. The management need to do better though, everything should be up and running as it is a major tourist attraction.

B
babatunde banimohA historic site with a lot to learn about the Egba war time, the interesting part for me are the marks made on the rock as a result of grinding with stones, and the view from the top is great. The art gallery is also an interesting place to feed the eyes.

Christopher OmonogunOlumo Rock is an ancient tourist center with great history of the origin of Egbaland. It has more than 150 steps to the pick of the rock which is over 137m above sea level. It has a shrine where sacrifices are offered yearly. Standing at the top of the rock you can see virtually every major location of the town. Olumo rock is truly a fun place and a place to be.

Aliyu MuhammadVisit Olumo rock and you’ll be left many days pondering over the wonders lavished on the earth that we are living in. Olumo rock is located in Abeokuta town of Ogun state.’ Abeokuta’ is a name which means ‘Under the Rock’. The town itself has a considerable deposit of huge rocky mountains, but the most thrilling of all is that of Olumo. Don’t dare miss it!
-
O
Onuka KaluOne of the natural tourists attractions in Nigeria. The Olumo rocks a UNESCO world heritage centre and attracts hundreds of visitors every day from around the world. Managed by the Ogun state government it is located at ancient town of Abeokuta. There are so sides to this tourist attraction. There is a sprawling stairs leading to the summit of the lofty rock or you can use the lift. But during my visit the lift was not working. So I have to make do with the stairs. Once at the top of the rock which stands several hundreds feet one can have an aerial view of the rusty town of Abeokuta. It is a beautiful sight to behold from the top of the rock. At the foot of rock is a gallery and restaurant. Entrance and parking lot are wheel chair accessible. Ideal for school excursion and group picnics, but children must be restricted for using the sprawling stairs to avoid fatal fall.
-

Olamide BelloOlumo Rock is a mountain in south-western Nigeria. It is located in the ancient city of Abeokuta, Ogun State, and was historically used as a natural fortress during inter-tribal warfare in the 19th century. Olumo is a popular tourist attraction. It provided protection to the Egba people when they needed it, and is now held in high esteem by the members of the clan. Its patron spirit is venerated in the Yoruba traditional religion as an orisha. Olumo Rock is annually celebrated with lots of sacrifices. New renovations were made and completed in early 2006. This upgraded the infrastructure of the site to include a new museum, restaurants, water fountain and the ancient Itoku market, where local artisans and traders enjoy haggling over prices just as much as the customers like to find a bargain. The market lies just outside the Olumo rock premises. It is the center of the indigenous Abeokuta industry of tie-and-dye, locally known as adire. Adire crafters, usually women both old and young, show off their designs in sheds alongside the roads. Behind these sheds are buildings where many of these crafters live and work and where their parents did before them. In places where the plaster has cracked off the walls, you may see traces of the mud bricks used in the original construction.

ibrahim olawaleTouring Abeokuta without vising the famous Olumo Rock is incomplete. No surprise that this rock is located in Abeokuta, meaning ‘under the rock’ as has been one of the choice tourist attractions in Nigeria. Olumo Rock has long served as a rock of offence and a fortress for the people of Egba Land, since the 19th century.

Kolawole AbolarinOlumo Rock is a resort you can visit for pleasure preferably during the day time. Ahmed Ademola OlugbileOlumo Rock is one of the most ancient of attraction centres in the country now a major tourist attraction in the south Western region of the country. The gate fee is quite reasonable with allowance for group pay and discounted at negotiable fee. Ample parking space available within. A fine restaurant where you get to eat local meals and good attendance within. Tour guides ready to take through the entire caves till the top of the rock. Staircases and elevator (under maintenance) fixed to make the journey seamless for all categories of tourists. Easy location to the place and smooth road. Toilet is not well maintained though.

Rebecca PearceReally good experience. Definitely a good attraction in Abeokuta. The line of sight is excellent from the top of you have the weather for it. Guides are knowledgable and definitely a useful attribute to the site. The lift was out of order when we attended. If this is the case, I would avoid if you have difficulties with your mobility as there are a lot of steps and rocks.
-
L
Liesel81A historical site not far away from the olusegun obasanjo presidential library so you could do both in a day. At the base you have the option of getting a tour guide - its actually advisable to do so as mine was quite knowledgable with regards to the site and the history of Abeokuta - which means in Under the rock. The Rock being referred to is the Olumo rock where the Egba people sort refuge during the tribal wars. Before the staircase and lift were build they were more natural footpaths to access the base of the rock. You get an amazing view of the city from the various viewing points.

Chris m.c. GeorgeA lot more need to be done to create a better look and feel of international standard. deseye dorisBeautiful tour center for lovers, family, schools ,offices etc. It is good place with beautiful breath taking climbing and views... The history and stories behind the Olumo Rock is some chilling thing to hear. Thanks to the tour guide who is the son or descendants of the first tour guide on the rock. The entrance fee is N1000 which is about 3Dollar per person and children N500. Tour guides will ask you to give them anything you from you good will after the tour though there official fee is N400 about 1Dollar. The lift is not working again that is Nigerian infrastructural management style for you. So everyone is made to climb the stairs. This place is highly not accessible to wheelchair users no thanks to the bad state of the lift which has been abandoned. Now, up on the rock you can get local drinks Palm-wine precisely and icecreams sealed in nylon the likes of FAN yogo. And plactic drinks with biscuits. Canteen can be seen on the ground but they at not functioning again as April 2019. Oh! How I which finger foods can be gotten up on the rock where you sit and eat while enjoying the beautiful breathtaking views.

Ahmed YusufAny visit to the city of Abeokuta would be incomplete without stopping by at the “fortress of Abeokuta”; Olumo Rock. No surprise that this rock is located in Abeokuta, as the name “Abeokuta” itself means “under the rock” as has been one of the choice tourist attractions in Nigeria. Olumo Rock has long served as a rock of offence and a fortress for the people of Egba Land, since the 19th century. At Olumo Rock, you would be treated to attractions like natural tunnels, unusual trees, natural cantilevers, gardens on the rock, broken pathways, monuments of the belief system of the rock’s primeval settlers, e.t.c. You don’t want to miss these attractions, do you?

Enjoy the scenery when you climb to the top of the rock formation. The on-site gallery and shop has some really nice trinkets and stuff to serve as mementoes of the visit. All-round good fun is to be had here

Modupe OtubamowoOlumo Rock is located in Abeokuta Ogun State and it is a must visit for every tourist in Nigeria. Side attractions in the location includes a Gallery, Spots to chills and eat, and a waterfall where you can take pictures. The entrance fee to Olumo Rock is 700 Naira, which is for those who would be climbing the stairs while those would be using the elevator pay 2000 Naira. There’s also a camera fee and parking fee.
-

Adetola AdeniyiOlumo rock is one the oldest historical and tourist center in Nigeria. It served as an hiding place during the war. There are art galleries situated here, that sell historical artworks of Olumo rock. Olumo rock is surrounded with iroko trees in between the big rocks. Some of the trees are as old as 300 years. The rock also houses the highest number of gods and goddesses in Nigeria. There are people still living in the rock that worship the gods and goddesses; the oldest woman living here is 131 years. There are three options used for climbing the rock, you can use the elevator, staircase and natural climbing (climbing on the rocks). Though, the elevator has been out of service for sometime now. Climbing the rocks without the elevator might require resting at intervals. Tour guides are also available to climb with you. Getting to the top of the rock is worth it, because you can view the whole of Abeokuta, Ogun rivers and neighbouring towns from the peak of the rock.

However, the management needs to improve on the overall maintenance of this historic site. At the moment, it looks unkempt, dirty and smelly.
