Jide OyegunleThe Centenary Hall, situated in Abeokuta, is a historical hall depicting the over 100 years of the settlement of the good people of Egbaland in Abeokuta. The centenary hall also shows that the people of Egbaland had over the century been exposed to civilisation and exposure to modern architectural designs as reflected in the structure of the hall. The Egba people were known to have had an independent government of their own under an established system of democratic governance before the amalgamation of the Nigerian Nation. Need I say that Abeokuta, known for her natural hospitality, home grown diplomatic excellence is home to the 1st Church in Nigeria as at the period of self government with the Alake as Head of government and other ministers with different portfolios. Within the vicinity of the Centenary Hall is the Palace of the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland and the old Abeokuta Urban District Council, the Premier Local government, site, now Abeokuta South Local government. The Ake palace is home to the biggest Bible, an agelong gift from England. A visit may not be enough but you will be convinced by the peaceful coexistence and the serene atmosphere we enjoy and savour in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state.
