It is a mother road which feeds the Mainland, Island and other exterior parts of the Island e.g Lekki, Ajah etc. The 3rd Mainland Bridge is a pivot to why Lagos is a mainstream City globally. The Bridge is known to be on "Holiday - less trafficked" on weekends and/or public/state-declared Holidays. Ceremoniously, in a spectacular event made global by Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, the Bridge played host to The Lagos City Marathon that saw 16 foreign nationals attend viz Kenyans, Ethiopians, Cameroonians, Ghanaians, Tanzanians, Zimbabweans, South Africans, as well as Americans, Canadian, French, Indians, Lebanese, Japanese, Chinese, Colombian, Northern Irelander etc. which is a clear indicator that the Bridge is a strong and robust diplomat. Other activities around parts of The Third Mainland Bridge experience middle scale fishing by Egun locals(Badagry natives) and boat riding along the Lagos coast. Kudos to General Ibrahim Babangida, the man who saw the future of Lagos and built the Third Mainland Bridge but a question pops up on my mind, why did the General build the famous Third Mainland Bridge? However, in the evenings, going from island to the mainland is traffic laden while coming from the mainland to the island is free. It is a very long bridge and it is one of the routes for the Lagos City Marathon. You have to drive carefully on this bridge as there are regular bashing of vehicle against each other due to negligent driving by most motorists.

Not ideal for jogging Update Lagos State government has improved the traffic at the tail end of the bridge at Iyana Oworo.
