One of the three bridges that links the Mainland to the Island stretches over 10km from Iyana Oworo to Obalende.
  • M
    Mahbub Baset
Longest bridge of Lagos connecting mainland & islands of Lagos city. Thousands of vehicles commute everyday with lots of memories through this 11.8 Km Long Bridge. I probably crossed this bridge over thousands of times now and still crossing. Any repairing work on this leads to a chaotic traffic situation in Lagos city.

Great for aging, thinking about life and the society, when stuck in traffic or about to jump off it . 5 star
  • O

The bridge is the most popular bridge, not just in Nigeria but across West Africa. Because this used to be the longest bridge in Africa, before the 6th October Bridge in Cairo Egypt. So now it is the second longest bridge in Africa. This bridge was build by a retied Head of State Gen. Ibrahim Babangida in the 90s. This bridge is one of the three bridges connecting the Main land to the Island of Lagos. this bridge as at today is over 26years old. Once in while a routine maintenance is cried out on the bridge to keep it strong and going. It also serves as a tourist sight, as most visitor who come to Lagos likes to get a glimpse of it...
  • T
    Tochukwu Uzoho
One of the three and longest of the three bridges linking Lagos mainland to the Lagos Island. A bridge with some historic value and should be the second longest bridge in Africa after the 6th October bridge in Cairo. You should see it.

Lagos is an intense city and draws such exciting emotions when approaching it from the Third Mainland Bridge. There is no other way to get excited about Nigeria than cruising into Lagos over this bridge. It is the link between the mainland and island. The bridge spans a massive 11.8km in length. This means it will take approximately 10 – 15 minutes drive to cover the length of the bridge. We all know it as Third Mainland Bridge. However, the official name of the bridge is Ibrahim Babangida Bridge.

Third Mainland bridge, longest bridge in Nigeria and west Africa. An asset per excellent to the people and traffic of Lagos. It cut across the lagoon and connects the mainland and the island. The bridge could be lonely if you are stranded, so remember the 911 for rescue. Telephone signals usually get lost midway on the bridge. I love the bridge because it makes me everywhere, mainland or island. See third mainland bridge at night
  • E
    Eniola Oladejo
Longest bridge in Nigeria. Lagoon is in full view. This bridge is the most traffic laden bridge in Africa, 5:30am-10am the traffic is at peak inwards Lagos island and 4.00pm-9.30pm the traffic is peak outward Lagos island. You have to be very calculating before using the bridge. As for safety the federal government conducted an emergency maintenance fix last year and an actual repair this year.
  • D

This is the most busy and important bridge that connect Mainland and Island. Like the people living in the Mainland also experience traffic in morning coming to Island, as well as they go back to their homes.

  • O
    Obioma Osuagwu
It is what it is! The longest bridge in town. Third Mainland bridge can be both a source of joy and pain to any road user, depending on when you use it. On weekdays, going to the Island from 6am to 8am and returning from 5pm to 7pm, you would wish you were somewhere else as the gridlock forces you to grow old in minutes. Whereas travelling on it on weekends is a pleasure to behold. Every Lagos resident needs to be on it at these times to truly understand what lies on Third Mainland bridge.
  • I

    Good during non-rush hours.
  • M

I ply this route every work day and the width is the joy as you may never go wrong taking Thirdmainland on a traffic-prone day. My advice is to check Google Map for directions, a five minutes apart on alternative routes when there is traffic in Lagos, do not follow alternative route, just do Thirdmainland so as not to be sorry

The longest bridge in Africa but deficient in so many ways. Has no rest room and the traffic is a torture during rush hour. Is more of a parking lot during rush hour than a convenient access to the Lagos island and Victoria island.

  • O
    O. Destiny
The longest and one of the most important in the country but it could use a lot of work to be ranked among the best. This is not the best place to be plying your poorly managed car because a breakdown on this terribly managed yet almost indispensable bridge could give you one of the most unforgettable moments in your life. Unforgettable not for a positive reason.

Remove this bridge from the architecture of Lagos state and you have a transportation chaos in the state. It is the major bridge connecting the mainland to the island part of Lagos state. It is the longest and busiest in the state and the entire country. The peciliarity of traffic on that bridge is particularly different from the experience on other bridges or road.

Cities are first imagined with the eyes of the mind before they are built by the hands of men. Such is the grandeur of The Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos Nigeria which once was the longest bridge in Africa. The Third Mainland Bridge is a connector to the commercial heart of Lagos. It is a mother road which feeds the Mainland, Island and other exterior parts of the Island e.g Lekki, Ajah etc. The 3rd Mainland Bridge is a pivot to why Lagos is a mainstream City globally. The Bridge is known to be on "Holiday - less trafficked" on weekends and/or public/state-declared Holidays. Ceremoniously, in a spectacular event made global by Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, the Bridge played host to The Lagos City Marathon that saw 16 foreign nationals attend viz Kenyans, Ethiopians, Cameroonians, Ghanaians, Tanzanians, Zimbabweans, South Africans, as well as Americans, Canadian, French, Indians, Lebanese, Japanese, Chinese, Colombian, Northern Irelander etc. which is a clear indicator that the Bridge is a strong and robust diplomat. Other activities around parts of The Third Mainland Bridge experience middle scale fishing by Egun locals(Badagry natives) and boat riding along the Lagos coast. Kudos to General Ibrahim Babangida, the man who saw the future of Lagos and built the Third Mainland Bridge but a question pops up on my mind, why did the General build the famous Third Mainland Bridge? Built in 1991 by Ibrahim Babangida, this bridge is the longest bridge in Nigeria. The flyover is the main connector between Island part of Lagos and the centre mainland. The bridge stretches 13km between Adeniji and Berger bustop. It is a major traffic spot for commuters going to the island in the morninɠ and returning from in the evening. The bridge represents Lagos, once it is shut down for repairs, you will dread ever having to commute between the mainland and the island.

The longest bridge in Nigeria. There is usually traffic in the mornings when majority of the Lagos workforce travels from the mainland to the island and the trend repeats on the other lane in the evenings/nights, when they return home. Want to beat the traffic? Try alternative routes. A ride on the bridge is most enjoyed when it is free.
