Good, affordable food, clean but busy. Ambiance is a little gloomy, poor lighting I guess. The food takes a bit of time to get to you after ordering but the wait is sometimes worth it. The waiters and staff are courteous and friendly.

Yellow Chilli had to be the best place to have real and authentic African and chic dishes served a la carte. The remodelling of the Victoria Island restaurant is a great testament to their pedigree in this gourmet meals. The bar now parade a line up of smart spirits and wines. Regardless of the accents and decor in the Ikeja restaurant which though may look far off from that eclectic minimalist Africa look and finish. Clearly, this do not to remove from the urbane polish decor which effectively match the profile of those highly discerning connoisseur.

I went to the VI branch. Its a cool place. Not crowded and decent parking space. Prices are not so expensive for restaurant in VI. My friend ate efo riro and pounded yam for about 3500 naira. Chapman was on point too for 750 naira for half. I did not like their jollof fiesta though, I will advice anyone to stay away from it.

The customer service is great, the security greets you as you enter, the waiter makes sure you’re comfortably seated. I’ve been there twice now and both times I ordered the jumbo prawns with the chef’s Savoury rice and it gets better everytime. I’m definitely going there to try more dishes. Yellow chilli has let success go to its head. Since 2005 when a friend took me there, I have gone there sabout two times a week during my visits to Nigeria (about 4 times a year, staying for weeks) . Over the years, I have noticed a significant reduction in size of food and increase in price. Examples 1. Quantity of meat and snail in yam pottage is a quarter of what it used to be 2. Their signature okra soup now has only one prawn but at higher price 3. Jollof rice is now two tiny portions of stringy meat DINERS at table next to mine at Yellow Chili said same this past Monday about complaint 2. This week I have begun to take my meals -- solo and with guests -- at other African restaurants.

I literally got tired of telling people about yellow chilli; I decided to write a review (in the future, I will be sure to direct them to read it here, lol). I found out about yellow chili when I relocated newly to Lagos and didn’t care for hotel meals. Funny enough it was just opposite my hotel (panorama hotel and restaurant which I also gave reviews about). I was hooked. I have brought family and friends. They are hooked!! (True talk and I am not being paid or in any way affiliated with yellow Chilli; just a satisfied customer’s honest review) My fav still remains the Egusi soup (so freshly made and don’t even get me started on the huge portion sizes) and still at affordable prices for a restaurant on the island. When I need to change it up from Egusi, I go for the yam porridge with snails. Want something peppery, then pls go for their bitter leaf soup or the pepper soup with your choice of meat or fish. They also have two versions of Okro soup that will literally make you think you are eating in your house. I have heard their fisherman’s pepper soup is what attracts the entire lagos (I hate fish so I can’t review on what I haven’t eaten) but hey, be sure to check them out if you are in town; looking for a cozy environment that serves freshly cooked meals so unbelievable that you can’t distinguish it from home cooked meals.

I went to yellow chili as the reviews had been great. Went with a party of 5 and we had 4 different meals. Only meal that was acceptable was the okra soup. Jollof rice fiesta, chef delight and even normal jollof was terrible. Simply terrible. Complained to the waiter and he apologized but I am never going back there again.
