Ilorin International Airport is a small but decent airport. The volume of air traffic is low and it usually serve international purpose on flights to Saudi Arabia for Hajj. It is accessible by road and is well located outside the busy Ilorin city. The infrastructures are well maintained.

It has a good sitting area for checked-in passengers, good baggage handling, good parking space and a few shops to buy some eatables while waiting to board your flight. Although expansion work seem to have bee suspended, the airport is in fair shape.

It is a beautiful place not as busy or big as Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja or port harcourt airport but one thing is for sure, it sure is very useful. There is always a direct transport from there to Mecca during the hajj season and for that I feel it is very nice. I feel it could be utilized more though.

So once i needed to get to ilorin quickly from kano, i was surprised to see that no airlines reboard here. I eventually called the airport line to confirm if the have a local airline that lands here from anywhere in Nigeria. I eventually came to the conclusion from the response i got that this airport is only international because it is used in transporting pilgrims during the pilgrimage season.

The airport is like the Houghton Michigan airport in the Upper Peninsula. Its a small airport with low traffic except during the annual air lifting of pilgrims (Christian and Muslim) to the holy lands Mecca and Jerusalem. Two major airlines make use of this airport daily. A few chartered flights and cargo planes pass through it. The special breed of cattle from Zimbabwe were delivered to this airport before they were transported to Shonga near Lafiagi in Kwara State.

Une bonne expérience, le staff est disponible et nous a même aidé à arranger notre transit à Abuja. Sans l’aide du staff on aurais pu rater le vol d’Abuja. Les toilettes sont toujours propre. Certains pensent que ce n’est pas un aéroport international à cause de la taille. Mais vu que les passagers peuvent prendre un vol direct d’Ilorin pour aller au Hadj je crois qu’il mérite le statut d’aéroport international. Il y a d’ailleurs tout l’équipement qu’il faut. La tour est équipée pour de grand manœuvre et est relié au aéroport de la sous région.
