If you really want to know the history and beautiful culture of Kano, Gidan Makama museum is the place to go to. Old artifacts and instruments used in precivilised Kano can be found here, including war, entertainment, religious and royal.

The more than 500-year-old museum building is a former Emir palace in traditional loam construction and is therefore an exhibit on the classic Hausa Architecture by itself. You should definitely go on a guided tour. The museum consists of eleven galleries and gives an impressive insight into the history of the city, but also in tradition, industry and music. Very interesting is the exhibition on the Islamic heritage of the Kanawa, as the inhabitants of Kano are called. In my opinion the must-see when in Kano, I was really impressed.

Some of the artifacts in this museum existed before the arrival of Islam in Kano state, and depict the traditions of the people of Kano state.
