Wuse market is the age long market within the metropolis of Abuja. Actually, my favourite market; it is very orderly and usually clean. The shops are well defined, no hawkers or makeshift stalls on the walkway and decent. There are several parking spots, being very close to the major road, you are not compelled to use a car hire within the market, simply walk out and pick a cab. There is a toll at the entrance and a token of N100 is charged. Wuse market is highly recommended.

Wuse Market is a main market in Abuja and is located in Zone 5 of Wuse district. It is a general market where you can find almost anything; food stuff, fresh vegetables, meat, clothes, electronics, furniture, phones, rugs and carpets etc. Prices in Wuse market are relatively high compared to what you will get in other markets like Utako and Garki. The prices are however cheaper when compared to prices in malls and stores. One good thing about the market is that it is organized and generally clean. You will however occasionally encounter traffic when driving into the market especially in the evenings. Give it a try one day and see how it looks like in the market.

Anyway, I heard Karmo market is bigger and better deals are found there but I am yet to checkout there.

It is a general market where you can find almost anything; food stuff, fresh vegetables, meat, clothes, electronics, furniture, phones, rugs and carpets etc. Prices in Wuse market are relatively high compared to what you will get in other markets like Utako and Garki. The prices are however cheaper when compared to prices in malls and stores. One good thing about the market is that it is organized and generally clean. You will however occasionally encounter traffic when driving into the market especially in the evenings.

The pictures below are at the other side of the market. This is most likely where a public transport vehicle will drop you especially if you’re coming from Zone 3 or Area 1. You’ll have to ask around for a narrow pathway that goes into the market. The market is very crowded and most parts of it are dirty. It’s just a regular Nigerian market. One thing I noticed however is that there’s no harassment of any sort. The marketers just allow you to scan and pass. You get access to Zenith Bank, Jaiz Bank, GTBank, Ecobank and Access Bank all which are inside the market or very close by.

Open markets, everywhere here, not just in Uwse Market alone, without a price tag; tends to generate quite a series of misconduct from the shop owners toward their customers in the sense that they may expect to make a profit up to 500% more than the actual price worth of the item before being satisfied to sell them. So you have to be careful otherwise you may end up paying a price you would have probably paid for 2 to 3 items just for one, and your guide directing you there would not safe you from the situation as they have to expect some sort of tips from the shop owner too for being the one taken a buyer to them, you know. Hygiene, like everywhere you go in Nigeria, is another discouraging thing at the Wuse Market. Heaps of cabbage are seen and stern of urine in some alley could be perceived in the air with smoke and sound pollutions coming from perhaps thousands of electric generators displayed in mass according to the individual shop operators to give light to their because of no steady electricity supply by the government.

Another issue to worry is sufficient car parks...early Saturday morning still the best time to go shopping because you can go round several times looking for where to park. A lot of security guys but they seem to be concern about the gates and not the car parks. No tallying at the gate, therefore, ensure that you lock your car well when at the market. Make sure all valuables are kept or of sight of strangers too.

They also have a nice computer section. Do not be afraid to walk away from a stall if u are not comfortable with the price because you will see other traders willing to help out. Carry your spirit of bargaining with u cuz they always start prices at x2 or more. If u seem lost ask anyone the traders are very nice, they will direct u right but also be at alert. Can also be a bit dirty sometimes in certain areas. Nice experience for tourists to visit.
